Photographing a Spider on its Web

Spiderweb with drops of water and a spider in the middle. I used a flash to overpower the ambient light in order to make the background completely black.

When photographing a spiderweb it can be difficult to make a spiderweb stand out against the background. The waterdrops on the spiderweb makes the spiderweb stand out against the black background. Including a spider on the spiderweb makes a much better photo. Placing the spiderweb off-centre creates a better composition.

This photo was taken in October 2013 with a Canon 5D MkIII and Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM.

Camera settings: f/22.0, 1/160 seconds and ISO 200
