Photo of a Common Rain Spider in South Africa

This photo was taken in my cars boot hinge. One morning when I opened my boot this spider surprised me. I took this photo hand held with no flash. I took a burst of photos to make sure one of them is in focus.

This is a Common Rain Spider (Palystes superciliosus) easily encountered in South Africa. They can become fairly large with a legspan of up to 7cm and a head to abdomen measurement of 3cm. This spider in the cars boot hinge was quite small at about the size of the palm of my hand.

This photo was taken in March 2014 with a Canon 50D and TAMRON SP 90mm F/2.8 Di VC USD Macro.

Camera Settings: f/2.8, 1/160 seconds and ISO 250
